Protein/Biomarker Extraction

key benefit of the Covaris process is to deconstruct initial tissue samples to small micron level pieces, so the target molecules, such as protein molecules, can be released. This controlled process typically results in higher yield, and better reproducibility for protein and biomarker extractions.

The following graph shows Covaris technology applied to "biomarker" extraction.

From the following Mass spec profile of Ciphergen® ProteinChip®, we can clearly see: with 5-second Covaris pre-treatment, there are 44 peaks recovered with Covaris treatment, vs. 33 peaks from the control sample with no Covaris treatment (samples are normalized).

Samples treated with the Covaris process show more heterogeneity and complexity. The recovery also increased using the Covaris process. The additional peaks recovered with Covaris treatment are high molecular weight peaks, not degradated products.
