New Sample Processing Tube
Covaris has developed a new sample processing tube. Specifically for small volumes at high AFA power. Initial uses are for DNA shearing of 100ul samples to 100bp fragments. The tubes may be used for other small volume/high power applications such as compound dissolution, tissue homogenization, etc. In addition, the tubes may be used in both the S2 system (single tube processing) and the E210 systems (batch processing — 24 tube rack and a 96 tube rack). Both S2 and E210 may be integrated into a robotic platform.
The patent pending tube system is composed of an annealed borosilicate round bottom glass tube and cap (snap-cap or crimp-cap available) with Teflon/silicon septa. he septa is pre-slit. The tube also has a proprietary "director" for the AFA energy, the AFA fiber. This combination provides:
- Improved precision
- Faster processing times
- Smaller sample volumes
- Robust processing system
NOTE: as the Covaris Adaptive Focused Acoustic (AFA) energy is scalable, it is not necessary to process the small volume sample with the intensity as a large volume sample. In other words, the energy required to processed 100ul is significantly lower than 2,000ul. Consequently, Covaris recommends using a maximum Intensity level of 5 with the small tubes.
