Overview
The Covaris E-series are advanced instruments based on technologies developed from both medical diagnostic imaging and therapeutic ultrasound industries. The E-series automate the Covaris sample preparation processes for high-throughput applications.

Application Areas
Disruption. Many of the current first step processes are manual and uncontrolled. For example, in ADME/Tox the small drug molecule tissue distribution is unknown, therefore, variations may be unknowingly carried through to analysis. In many instances, with the high-speed, iterative Covaris processes, recoveries are higher and precision is improved.
Extraction. Once a cell or tissue matrix is disrupted, it is very difficult to effectively and reproducibly extract desired target molecules. With the Covaris technology, both the time and temperature of a process are controlled. For example, in metabolite applications recoveries are increased, samples are processed in less time, and sample temperature may be maintained isothermal during the "mechanical reflux" process.
Dissolution. Compound screening requires complete dissolution. The Covaris process is highly beneficial for ensuring difficult solutes in small volumes are efficiently dissolved, such as those lyophilized in DMSO.
Non-contact Mixing. Reaction volumes can be mixed and pellets resuspended in milliseconds. Sample integrity is also maintained as the process is non-contact, closed vessel -- no evaporation, no probe, no contact.
Broad Range of Applications:
In life science and pharmaceutical research, the following are some of the areas E-series are used:
- DNA shearing
- Chromatin shearing
- Cell Lysis
- Compound dissolution
- Compound formulation
- High-throughput chemistry
- Tissue disruption and homogenization
- Sample extraction for metabolic and proteomic profiling
- ADME/Tox
Instrument Models:
Covaris E210 is used in most applications. We may recommend other E-series models for certain specialized projects. Covaris E-series systems may also be configured for other tubes and vials, temperatures, and may be integrated to robotic deck for enhanced automation. Please contact Covaris for more details.
The E-series instruments may easily be configured for tubes, vials, and micro-well plates, for batch and single sample processing.
Our proprietary software, SonoLab, runs on Windows® XP with easy-to-use-tools. Create run-time configurations and save for repeat. Save data in a *.csv file format.
