Tissue Homogenization for Metabolic Studies

The AFA process is ideally suited to sample preparation for metabolic studies. Typically, sample preparation protocols vary widely from lab to lab, and from process to process. To date the Covaris AFA technology has been compared to a number of these. In many cases AFA was at least equivalent and more often superior in data quality, but the AFA brought control to an uncontrolled primary sample preparation process. The unique control of the process has been shown to yield higher degrees of biological activity from certain preparations in customers' hands. The automation aspects of the E-series have been beneficial in this area; process control of the initial primary sample is critical for rigorous analytical studies.

In this application the features and benefits are listed below.

Feature Benefit
Isothermal
  • No protein denaturation
  • Controllable disruption temperatures
Controllable mechanical energy
  • Higher protein yield
  • Higher activity protein preparations
  • More complete metabolic profiles
Fast (30 secs per sample)
  • Convenience, one step protocol (high throughput)
Automatable
  • Ability to process large numbers of samples in batch mode
Computer controlled
  • Highly repeatable
Closed tube
  • Safe, no aerosol risk
  • No sample cross-talk
  • No clean-up, nor decontamination
