The Covaris Process is based on fundamentally different physical processes to those which are typically applied in the life science industry. This enables a broad range of beneficial applications to be developed, and more importantly, in some instances a higher level of performance than currently available processes.
Where It Comes From
The Covaris Process, termed Adaptive Focused Acoustics (AFA), was derived from incorporating advances of the highly developed industries of medical diagnostic ultrasound imaging and therapeutic lithotripsy applications, such as the high intensity focused ultrasound-based acoustic disruption of kidney stones. Therapeutic disruption of these stones is currently carried out using focused acoustics in the majority of clinical treatments. This technology eliminates a surgical procedure as the energy is able to safely transverse tissue prior to converging in an intense energy field at the site of the stone. This core technology, when coupled with advanced microprocessor and robotic controls, is enabling diverse, beneficial applications for life sciences to be developed by Covaris.
